5. SUNDAY EVENING ~Grandma~

Grandma leaves a nightlight on for Marie and John.

After bed time stories and tight tuck-ins,

And those little teeth can chomp most anything.

Abby is always happy to get up in her eating spot.

and Helen gets the butter and milk.

Upstairs, the chicken is frying

and a sweet end to her day.

Grandma brings Izzy in for her supper

and decide on a late supper after the kids are in bed.

Marie and John discuss house construction  progress,

Helen sets the table and  makes Abby laugh.

Now that the knife-work and the baby baths are done, Grandma trusts herself with a cocktail.
(Ooooh.  Nicely aerated.)

 Helen-at-your-service.  She's very committed to compliance and cooperation.

It's a character anomaly in this household of mavericks.

Helen is organizing her toy shelf when Grandma calls her for supper.

 a hearty, dyed-in-the-wool Yankee.
Abigail got the genes.

She made her fortune in the restaurant business, but

still lives in the family homestead.  It hasn't changed much since the 30s and 40s.

 belies her culinary training.

She always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

 Her calm, folksy manner

Grandma is at home wherever she goes.

A fine quality in this frenetic world.
